Frank Wing Receives Honorary Degree from Wentworth Institute

Francis (Frank) W. Wing received an honorary Bachelor of Technology degree Sunday from Wentworth Institute of Technology at its Spring Commencement held on Sunday, May 6^th.  Wing had previously received an Associate in Engineering Degree from Wentworth Institute in the days when the College was considered to be the top two-year technical institute in the country.  Wentworth is now a private four-year co-educational college and offers one of the largest and most comprehensive cooperative education programs of its kind in the nation.   Founded in 1904 Wentworth now offers bachelor degrees with majors in the fields of applied mathematics, architecture, computer science, construction management, design, engineering, engineering technology, and management. 

Upon graduating from Wentworth, Wing worked for several years in engineering including at Cornell Dubilier Electronics in New Bedford, where he was the head of the Industrial Engineering Department.  In the early seventies he worked as a manufacturing engineer at Raytheon Company in its Missile Systems Division at its Bedford Labs location at Hanscom Air Force Base Field in Bedford, Massachusetts.  It was in this position that he worked in several different Raytheon plants in both New England and California on the development of the U.S. Army's Surface-to-Air Missile Development Program or (SAM- D).  In 1978 the SAM-D entered full-scale production and was renamed the "Patriot Missile" in honor of the U.S Bicentennial Celebration.

In addition to graduating from Wentworth Institute, Wing also holds a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University. Wing and his wife, Carol A. Hryciw-Wing, both graduates of B.M.C. Durfee High School, live in Fall River and have three children, David M., James A., and Dr. Robyn D. Wing.
