Profile Rock
Profile Rock
Profile Rock or the Old Man of Joshua's Mountain
is
located in Freetown, Massachusetts. The mountain is located outside
of the Assonet Village off Slab Bridge Road and near the Freetown State Forest
The Mountain was named after Joshua Tisdale who was the first to settle near the
site.
The mountain was privately owned for several years by former Freetown Selectman,
Ben Evans. Selectman Evans sold the mountain to the State of Massachusetts
around 40 years ago to be used as a state park tourist attraction.
However, over the years, the State of Massachusetts has done little to promote
this outstanding attraction unlike what the State of New Hampshire has done to
promote the former "The Old Main in the Mountain" in New Hampshire.
As a result, today the Profile Rock Indian Head still stands on the side of
Joshua's Mountain however, it has been loaded with graffiti.
This picture was taken around 1963 and it might be the best picture ever taken of
the Indian Head because it was done before all the unattractive graffiti was added to it.
