Fall River  LNG    Below are some of the links to important issues regarding the Fall River LNG Project.
Although we are strongly against this project we believe you should
know both sides of this issue.  Therefore, you will also find links to
various links to Hess Corporation sites on this page.

We have been attempting to help Fall River Mayor
Edward Lambert and the City of Fall River in stopping  the
proposed Fall River Weavers Cove LNG Proposal that has been
submitted to the Federal Government for approval.   During this
time, I have been in constant contact with the White House and with the
person in the Federal Energy
Commission that is
handling the Fall River Weavers Cove LNG Proposal whom the White House
put me in contact with.
This page has been set up to help show and condense some of the issues
on both sides of this proposal, I do believe that this is a very bad location to
try to put this type of facility from everyone's point of view for several
reasons:
To start with, the overwhelming majority of the people in the City of
Fall River as well as those along the bay starting in Newport, RI and
up Taunton River leading up to the proposed site are strongly against
this proposal.  With these people it is not just a case of just "Not in My
Back Yard' but one more of "Not in My Living Room".    The main
reason for their opposition seems to be both economic and pure "fear".
Everywhere in the area you will either see or hear opposition to this proposal.
If you travel in the area you can find various types of yard signs reading
"NO LNG" etc.  Many of the these signs look home made.  However, you can
tell that most of the signs have been mass produced because they are all the
same.  However, you will find different signs that have been mass produced in
various towns or areas which  shows that there are many different groups out
there that opposes this proposal.
Likewise, if you read the local newspapers or tune into the local radio
stations you will easily tell that about 99.9 percent of the people are against
this proposal.
Another important reason is the large cost that both sides of this
proposal are facing.  The small City of Fall River have already planned
to spend over one million dollars to fight this proposal and several local towns
have set aside funds to help out in a legal battle to stop this project.
Likewise, Hess just announced that it is going to have to spend a great
deal more that what was originally planned because of the fact that the US
Congress voted to keep this bridge which means Hess Corporation will
have to use much smaller boats and make many extra trips to bring this LNG
to Fall River.  Likewise, the cost for these extra trips will have a
large effect on someone however, no one knows for sure just who as of this
writing.
As a result of this major change in the proposal, I understand, Mayor
Lambert has held a rehearing with the
Federal Energy Commission
because of this change.
It is also important to point out the following facts as I understand
them,  This Federal Energy
Commission Board
was set up by the US Congress and approved by the President to
give this Commission the full power to decide where these LNG sites can go in
the country without being under ant political influence from either political
party or members of Congress or the President.  This I believe, is like the way
the US Supreme Court is set up.   The five members of this board are
appointed by the President to serve a five year term.  No more than three
can be from the same political party.  At the present time there are only three
members on the board all appointed by President Bush.  Two are
Republican and one is Democrat.  There are two openings on the
board.

 This site shows that
Hess Corporation net income increased 52 percent over last
year's 3rd quarter net income because of the increase in it's prices for oil and
gas .  This increase in profits was in spite of the fact that Hess'
oil production was down over last year's because of the Katrina Hurricane.
In the  3rd quarter of 2004 it was $ 179 million
In the  3rd quarter of 2005 it was $ 272 million
In addition, to the harm these high gas and oil prices have done to the
country, it has also had a very large negative effect on the poll ratings of
President George W. Bush.
